Spider Woman

Bendis and Alex Maleev wrote a wonderful issue #1. First of all, Alex Maleev's art is wonderful! His Jessica Drew is expressive. The was he drew Agent Brand was priceless - she looked like she came straight out of a James Bond film. Classy. The colors Maleev used - psychedelic - somehow made the atmosphere somber. He used bright colors to emphasize the gritty criminal underworld and the feelings of hopelessness that Jessica was feeling.

Bendis has always been good writing female characters - even Gail Simone had to acknowledge this. Kahit "nag-away" sila. The splash-page on flashbacks with the Luna Brothers' drawings from the Spider Woman mini-series was a geek-out moment.

Jessica is being recruited by SWORD to fine aliens and neutralize them anyway she can think of. Even kill them. Priority is cleaning up all the Skrulls who were left behind. This offer came at the moment when Jessica was contemplating suicide. She felt useless and that everyone hated her. Well, the Skrull Queen did use her face to declare war and occupation of our planet. After all the mind-frak that she has been through all her life - it was a breaking point.

She accepted the job to hunt down Skrulls and one came to her hotel in Madripoor as Spiderman. Telling her not to accept the SWORD offer. She beat the crap out of that Skrull. But how did they know that that she was with SWORD? Hmmm...

I will anticipating this book as much as I am excited about Detective Comics. Very Happy
